The affection on Damen's face was for a moment too much, and unease roiled through Laurent, as unsteadying as Makedon's wine. He breathed in carefully and wondered why Kastor had waited so long. Why had he not done away with his father, with Damen, sooner? Sentiment? Laurent could not believe that, any more than he could understand why his own uncle had waited so long to make an attempt on his own life. He supposed they ought be grateful, that they'd been allowed as many years as they had in comparative peace.
