Even now, Damen felt uncomfortable considering it anything less than admirable. But why showing off for Laurent and lying had to be mutually exclusive, he did not know. While exaggerating emotions was undoubtedly a bit dishonest, it was hardly on the same level as pretending entirely.

The conversation shifted then, but only slightly, Damen turning his head to see the machine that held Laurent's attention. It was an immense thing, a dizzying mess of lines and pulls and levers that had bewildered Damen when first he'd seen it as well. Now, however, he quirked a grin and pulled away from Laurent to approach it, taking a seat at the bench and leaning back somewhat.
'Have you not seen this yet in use?' he asked, already aware of the likely answer as he pushed up slightly and lifted his hands to the bar that hung above his head. He tugged it downward as he sat once more, the tension not nearly enough to so much as break a sweat. 'This is only one of its uses,' he said before nodding back over his shoulders where four outside-most curves were bent more sharply than the others.
